Taurus LAN Firmware Update

Updates and changes made in this release:

  • Fixed: UPnP device is not recognized
  • Fixed: GUI can not finish formatting SATA HDD (750GB) with EXT3
  • Fixed: EXT3 write performance too low (about 5-6MB/sec)
  • Fixed: Bridge mode (ra+eth0) cause Ethernet read-mode performance drop
  • Fixed: Route table will not auto set the default gateway
  • Fixed: Linux hangs after ifconfig commands
  • Fixed: Ping 65500 packet length causes system crash
  • Fixed: Memeo can not backup files from PC to NAS when the file system of the NAS is FAT32
  • Fixed: Ramdisk full when transferring a lot of files via FTP (moved log.smbd, log.nmbd, xferlog, ftp messages and proftp.pid to /system/log and moved all *.tdb and *.pid of samba to /system/var/run
  • Fixed: Firmware update failed
  • Fixed: 8 PC clients running special test pattern causes kernel paging fault (./linux/arch/arm/mm/cache-fa.S)
  • Fixed: FinePix F410 mass storage mode can not finish copying files from the camera to the hard disk
  • Fixed: Can not see new folders without rebooting on Mac OS 10.5
  • Fixed: File transfers are interrupted when a new USB device is connected
  • Fixed: Sleep mode does not work for certain drives (might still not work properly for some drives from WD due to the lack of the E3h command in those hard drives)
  • Fixed: Chinese log files are unreadable
  • Changed: Bonjour enabled by default
  • Changed: OS LED now blinks during shut down procedure
  • Changed: Admin can now access and see old shares after factory reset
  • Changed: MTU changed to 1480

Before you upgrade the firmware, turn on your Taurus LAN network drive, login via web browser and check the present firmware. If your current version is the same as the latest release seen above, your unit does not need to be updated. If yours has an older version, follow the steps described below.

WARNING: NEVER TURN OFF YOUR UNIT DURING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCEDURE. THIS MAY DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE. IF FOR ANY REASONS (E.G. POWER SUPPLY FAILURE DURING FIRMWARE UPDATE) THE PROCEDURE FAILS, YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO OPERATE YOUR DEVICE ANYMORE. IN THIS CASE PLEASE CONTACT YOUR VENDOR!

THIS FIRMWARE IS FOR MACPOWER'S TAURUS LAN NETWORK DRIVE. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER FIRMWARE FOR THE TAURUS LAN AND DO NOT USE THIS FIRMWARE FOR ANY OTHER DEVICE!

 

1. Download the latest firmware for your Taurus LAN network drive and save it on your local disk.

2. Turn on your Taurus LAN, use the web browser and log in as admin.

3. Stop all current downloads and then go to "Firmware Upgrade" in the "Maintenance" menu.

4. Click on the "Browse" button and locate the new firmware on your computer.

5. Press the "Upgrade" button to start the firmware upgrade procedure.

6. Confirm the pop-up dialog by pressing the "OK" button.

7. During the upgrade procedure, the screen will show progress bar but the update will take a while, so make sure the device is not interrupted until the upgrade is finished.

8. Once the update is completed, the device will automatically restart.

9. Login via web browser, reset the device to factory default and then set up your user accounts, groups and other settings again.

10. Done, your new firmware is now ready to use.
