Taurus RAID II

December 4, 2007 - Taipei, Taiwan – Macpower, industry leading OEM/ODM manufacturer of external storage enclosures and digital media products, today releases the Taurus RAID II, an upgraded version of the already very popular 3.5” dual bay SATA Taurus RAID model. Still providing a triple interface design and RAID 0 and 1 protection, this latest version incorporates Macpower's smart fan technology and silicone shock absorbers to protect the internal SATA hard drives.

Users can connect two 3.5” SATA hard drives which provides over 1TB of storage creating abundant space for large data or media files. The Taurus RAID II allows users to select from 3 different modes. RAID 0 maximizes both the storage space and transfer speeds, while RAID 1 offers data protection by “mirroring” a copy of the data onto the second hard drive. With JBOD mode, both hard drives appear as a single drive on the desktop for convenient file transferring.

“With RAID 1 and 0, users can choose between data protection or performance modes,” Macpower President, Tommy Chen commented. “Or with JBOD mode, users can use both hard drives as if it were one large drive.”

Powered by an Oxford 924 chipset, the Taurus’s triple interface design incorporates high performance data transfer speeds with Firewire 800 and also allows for compatibility with every workstation using Firewire 400 and high speed USB 2.0. The aluminium enclosure provides passive cooling with front and rear ventilation plus a powerful smart fan, that automatically regulates the fan speed according to the internal temperature to keep the hard drives cool. Additional silicone rubber shock absorbers offer additional protection for the hard drives during operation.

“The Taurus RAID II’s active and passive cooling system protects your hard drives from overheating,” Mr. Chen explains. “And silicon shock absorbers add further protection for your hard drives from any excess vibration on your desk top!”
